BirthWork Press
Book Coaching and Publishing for the cause of maternal health and birth justice—by and for birth workers.
About BirthWork Press
BirthWork Press is an independent publishing house led by and created for birthworkers as authors. We publish books by doulas, midwives, lactation consultants, community birth workers, and maternal health advocates whose knowledge is rooted in lived practice, cultural tradition, and accountability to the communities they serve.
Birthworkers hold generations of embodied knowledge about care, survival, and resistance—yet much of this wisdom remains unpublished or is filtered through academic, medical, or wellness frameworks that dilute its meaning. BirthWork Press exists to ensure this knowledge is documented, stewarded, and made accessible as part of the cultural and historical record.
We approach publishing as care work, not extraction. Our editorial process is grounded in the ethics, language, and realities of birthwork, supporting authors in translating lived experience into books that educate, challenge, and endure.
Join Birthing Author-ity, our monthly publication and podcast, to hear from authors and celebrate the voices shaping birth justice.
We are not open for submissions at this time.
